Minneapolis Radio Station To Host A Prince Marathon--Once It Snows

Prince Announces He'll Tour The States In A Series Of Surprise Shows

While most Prince fans associate the funk legend's music with searing guitar solos and, ahem, rising temperatures, the man's Midwestern neighbors are often stuck bumping their Dirty Mind and Controversy LPs while the winter wind chill dips to subzero levels. This native Minnesotan can assure you first-hand that the ice and snow can sap the funk right out of you, but the Twin Cities' local public radio station is doing its best to heat things up.

The legendary 89.3 The Current announced Thursday that once an inch or snow has been recorded on the ground at Prince's home residence of Paisley Park just outside Minneapolis, their local show will launch into a full-on Purple marathon. The details of their plan are as follows:

When MPR News weather guru Paul Huttner officially certifies that one inch of snow has accumulated in Chanhassen, Minnesota—home of Prince’s Paisley Park studio—we’re going to pull the Prince lever and start an all-out Prince marathon on our Local Current stream of Minnesota music. The hits, the B-sides, the album tracks…we’re just going to play a steady stream of Prince to welcome winter, Purple-style.

In a video announcing the blustery Prince-a-thon, Minnesota Public Radio staffers admitted that the move is a "shameless radio stunt," but the enthusiasm is genuine, and there's never a reason to be ashamed when it comes to bumping P. You can stream The Local Current show online and even sign up for an email alert that will let you know when the flurries have flown and the get-down has begun.
