Anushka Kendrick Single Art
Sunkissed and shining like a body fresh from the sea, Anushka's new single "Kendrick" is everything one could hope for in a summer anthem. Built upon a swift house kick drum, clean piano and handclaps, the song puts vocalist Victoria Port front and center, her beautiful melodies building images of blues skies and, of course, "Kendrick on the radio" (yes, it's also a loving tribute to hip-hop's man of the year.)
Producer Max Wheeler is the other half of Anuskha, and is responsible for "Kendrick" gorgeously balanced beat, along with the delicate layering of Port's vocals, which rise and crest over like waves. With chords plucked straight out of an airy jazz cafe and a beat sourced from underground dance rooms, there's just the right amount of familiarity to "Kendrick," and yet it's completely crisp. Alluring looks, freshly-shaken drinks and a comfortable haze lingering over it all; we could only be so lucky as to have all of summer sound like this. Anushka's 2014 debut LP Broken Circuit was met with glowing reviews, praised for its sly juxtaposition of dance and soul techniques.
Anushka most recently released an EP, Distorted Air, via Gilles Peterson's Brownsound Recordings label, and the "Kendrick" will go on sale September 4th, and on it Wheeler and Port have honed their sound to an even sweeter degree.
