Hear Potatohead People Get Gravy-Smooth On New Track "Broke The Pen"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Canadian co-conspirators Nick Wisdom and Astrological have returned to their duo project Potatohead People, a soul-tinged production outfit that has a knack for stuttering instrumentals. Their newest single is entitled "Broke The Pen" and is a little slice of instrumental joy that hinges on synth bass, clanking snares, sheeny keys tones and an overall vibe of nonchalance. If your favorite Detroit producer had set up a studio on the moon, this might be the result of such an interplanetary session.

Potatohead People are getting set to release a a brand new LP, Big Luxury, which drops March 2nd. That disc is billed as a showcase of both Wisdom and Astrological's affections for 90s hip-hop, DJ Shadow-era downtempo, disco and fusion jazz, and from what we hear here on "Broke The Pen" it should prove to be an eminently listenable and tasty bundle of tracks. "Broke The Pen" features co-production credits from Vancouver producer Mosaic, who was reportedly the kindly teacher that showed Wisdom himself how to begin constructing beats. The entire collective hits their stride on "Broke The Pen"; from Montreal to Vancouver, it seems that the funk is alive and well up in the north.
