Pass The Popcorn : Paul Giamatti Cast As NWA Manager Jerry Heller In Upcoming 'Straight Outta Compton' Biopic
Paul Giamatti has signed on to play NWAmanager and Ruthless Records co-founder Jerry Heller (pictured with Eazy E above) in the upcoming biopic Straight Outta Compton. Giamatti joins the likes of Jason Mitchell (as Eazy E) Marcus Callender ( as Dr. Dre) and Ice Cube's heir to the chilly thrown O'Shea Jackson as is father in the film, the shooting of which has already undergone some of the troubles one would assume could arise in the filming of a piece on the foundational gangstafied crew in their native City of Compton. Namely a near-set drive-by shooting and a casting call that had some pretty terrible profiles for extras.
Straight Outta Compton promises to take the story of how Eazy, Yella, Cube, Dre, Ren and Arabian Prince changed the game forever, providing a more accurate, less Disney-ish portrayal of their surroundings in a narrative folks were just beginning to take head of in the late '80s. We're still a long way's off from a silver screen debut, however, barring any further setbacks in the film's production, we should have our very first non-Behind The Music treatment of Compton's microphone champions in due time.
