Dame Dash Developing TV Series On The Rise And Fall Of Roc-A-Fella Records

In 1996, Dame DashKareem Burke and Jay Z founded Roc-A-Fella Records, changing the entire hip-hop landscape with the release of Hov's debut album Reasonable DoubtDash has claimed the label's establishment "helped save hip-hop from itself." Others have stated the opposite entirely, but that's neither here nor there, as its arguable that Roc-A-Fella's success cemented hip-hop's commercially-viable status, and paved the way for its virtual ubiquity.

Once Hov and Roc-A-Fella's roster (Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleak, Cam’ron, DJ Clue) became household names, the label was bought by Island Def Jam and Hov officially entered his current mogul role as the President and CEO of Def Jam. Now the tensions and turmoil that plagued Roc-A-Fella's rise and fall are slated to be dramatized and adapted to a TV series by Dash and producer Lemuel Plummer, who promise a "brutally honest" telling of the Roc-A-Fella legend, according to Deadline. Whether original music from Roc-A-Fella's heyday will be featured has yet to be revealed, but as the founder of the gamechanging label, there are few as capable of bringing the origins story to life as Dame Dash.

No premiere date or production schedule has been announced, but Dash likens his idea for the show to Vinyl or The People Vs. OJ Simpson.
