The Academy To Showcase Hip-Hop's Impact On Cinema

Next month, the Academy will host a series of screenings in New York City centered on hip-hop's impact on cinema.

The series, titled Made You Look: Four Decades of Hip-Hop's Impact in Cinema, will feature four movies, with each movie representing every decade since the '80s.

Here are the four movies that will be screened:

Wild Style directed by Charlie Ahearn. Tuesday, June 6

Menace II Society directed by The Hughes Brothers. Tuesday, June 13

8 Mile directed by Curtis Hanson. Tuesday, June 20

Nas: Time Is Illmaticdirected by One9. Tuesday, June 27

The screenings for Wild Style and Nas: Time is Illmatic will include post-screening discussions with the movies' perspective directors.

All four movies will be shown at the SVA Theater, at 23rd Street in New York City. The screening will be hosted by Martha Diaz, of the Hip-Hop Education Center.

Made You Look: Four Decades of Hip-Hop's Impact in Cinema is just one set of screenings the Academy plans to have next month. They are also doing a screening centered on the original Robin Hood from the 1920s, building a soundtrack for movies, and more.
