Rhythm and blues legend Etta James (famously portrayed by Beyoncé Knowles in the recent film Cadillac Records) has announced that her new album The Dreamer, released yesterday through Verve Forecast, will be her final LP After 50-plus years of hits. In that span James has not only taken home Six Grammys (not to mention some 17 Blues Music Awards) but has been installed in multiple Halls of Fame, including the Rock n’ roll, Rhythm & Blues and Rockabilly and has a star on Hollywood’s walk of fame. The Dreamer is her first release in 5 years and features James’ covers of Otis Redding‘s “Coffee & Cigarettes”; Ray Charles‘ “In the Evening” and Guns ‘n’ Roses “Welcome to the Jungle” (full tracklisting after the jump). The timing of James’ retirement announcement may be a result of her health troubles (she was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year) but she made no mention of them in her public statements, saying only:

I wish to thank all my fans who have shown me love and support over all these years. I love you all.

The Dreamer is available now on Amazon.
