Daddy G and 3D of renowned UK soundscapers Massive Attack come through with a massive, moody remix (can’t say for sure this is official–but how else would they have the stems? I wonder) of Nas current banger “The Don,” replacing the lighter-fluid concoction mixed by Salaam Remi, Heavy D (R.I.P.) and Da Internz with a constantly shifting bed of electronic darkness. Though totally re-contextualizing the vocals and losing all the NY street anthem feel, this refix if anything brings out the complexity of Nas’ flow even more than the original, which almost hides the cadence in pure catchiness. With space to bounce around off the atmospheric rhythms and Super Cat‘s ghostly voice looping in the background amidst sirens and eerie b-boy war cries, Nasir’s words take on new life. Stream below and hope for a whole remix EP.
