Okayafrica Video: Zakee “Freedom”

Zakee, you may remember, is a Philly cat we were pretty excited about for his excursions into kuduro/tropical/b-more club -type material. He is the also the next dude to drop on Green Owl, the label responsible for signing The Very Best but in spite of any expectations that came with that association, his recent stuff has been more in the vein of post-Africa, post-everything pop. Case in point “Freedom,” (courtesy of Okayafrica) which is basically a noodly TVOTR-style pop jam, even though the bass and b-more snares are still there driving it forward. This is just the tip of the experiments he engages in on his new LP Assimilations (September 13th on GO) and we know that cause he a) played it for us and b) sat down in a Fort Greene bistro not so long ago for a lengthy chop & quench session on what it all means. Enjoy and stay tuned!
