OKP favs Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio teamed up with Malian desert rockers Tinariwen for this gem of a song and made a mesemerizing video to go with it, because how are you going go to the middle of the sahara to jam with these dudes and not film it? A lot of the new crop of culture-crossing tends to feel very jarring and choppy (sometimes in a good way, sometimes not) but this just flows seamlessly. As the OKA crew point out:
The collabo makes complete sense – you can hear Adebimpe’s signature vocal stylings complement the rhythmic gritty desert blues Tinariwen achieves on this new release – a departure from the more psychedelic electric-guitar based sounds they are known for, as they recorded with mainly acoustic guitars and un-amplified percussion here…. Be on the look out for Tinariwen’s newest release, Tassili, due out August 30th on Anti, which also features Wilco‘s Nels Cline and the horn section from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
