The Roots joined Malian songstress Fatoumata Diawara, Elvis Costello and others at the Clinton Global Initiative awards gala to address "forced love" in Africa. The event earlier this week was held to celebrate the global accomplishments of those working to better the world; the festivities focused heavily on the inequalities facing women across the world and those individuals and organizations allied to change the landscape through advances in education, politics, infrastructure and greater awareness of the emotional and physical health risks facing women - especially those forced into arranged or non-consensual relationships. Diawara addressed the issue in a brief conversation with Okayafrica TV:

Love is already difficult when you choose, it’s more difficult when you cannot choose

The ceremony's musical content was produced by Randy Jackson and also featured the amazing beat-boxing talents of Rahzel. Check the footage from Okayafrica TV below to get a taste of the performance. Check the full event gallery and more at Okayafrica.
