Baloji x Fela Kuti Buy Africa
Francophone emcee Baloji his rework of Fela Anikulapo Kuti's "Buy Africa" from the recently released RED HOT + FELA compilation tribute album to the late and great Nigerian musician and revolutionary. A poignant and powerful writer, the Congo born, Belgium raised emcee tackles Africa's identity crisis after the contracted foreign development of many of the continent's natural resources, particularly oil. Begging for fellow Africans to invest into their own land and help protect the sanctity and sense of identity, Baloji's sentiments towards his land mirror that of his Nigerian predecessor making this collaboration more than apt. The commanding horns and the driving beat of the Fela composed track, build a sense of urgency that cannot be understated and is wholly indicative of the circumstances facing the African public and the shaping of politics around them.
