A teacher in Apex, North Carolina has been suspended after comparing a 13-year-old student to a slave.

The incident, which was caught on video via a Snapchat post, shows an Apex Middle School teacher using a racial slur and comparing seventh grader Dayon Warren to a slave.

"Did I call you a 'ni**er?' No, I said you are being controlled, by kids," the teacher can be heard saying to Warren. "That is exactly what happened to the slaves. They were controlled by their owners, you're letting him control you and you're the one who's getting in trouble."

Warren said the teacher got mad because a group of students would not stop laughing, and used the salve-master analogy in an attempt to say that children need to listen to adults.

"I didn't know what to say. He started calling me a slave," Warren said in an interview with ABC 11. "He could have said it different instead of using that analogy that I was his slave."

"It's more so hurtful than anything because I would never want my children to expect that," Ayona Wilson, Warren's mother, added. "[The teacher] should know what to say, what not to say to these children. He also had to know some of the things he says can hurt people and that is going to stick with my son forever."

Following the incident, the teacher was suspended, with the Wake County School District initiating an investigation in regards to the incident.
