The new mix from UK x South African duo The Happy Show is no exception, stream and get the backstory below:

The Happy Show is the New York-based DJ duo of South African artist Xander Ferreira (better known for his electronic project Gazelle) and British songwriter Findlay Brown. For this installment of Africa In Your Earbuds, The Happy Show curated an all-South African mixtape that spans several decades, “from the 60′s and 70′s sounds of mbaqanga, disco, funk and soul to the 80s synthpop hits and all the way to today’s sounds of shangaan electro,” as Ferreira points out, “finishing off with a very special unreleased track by two great friends from Khayelitsha that used to work with me while I was performing as Gazelle.”

Cut Chemist Mix by Jimmy Cover

Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow have been on a trans-continental tear, bringing the Renegades of Rhythm tour to the masses. Featuring records hand-picked from the home collection of Afrika Bambaataa, the tour is both a testament to the hip-hop forefather and an exhibition of just how fresh and futuristic a DJ set can be. Check Okayplayer's own in-depth Renegades of Rhythm exposé here, and enjoy Cut Chemist's own sampler mix of Bambaataa's records below. Yes, those vinyl crackles come straight from the dusty crates of Bam's own den. Here's a bit of what Chemist had to say about the mix:

Take a peak into the exclusive material from hip hop pioneer DJ Afrika Bambaataa. "Mix By Jimmy" features recordings Bambaataa had pressed to acetate for spinning live at shows in the late 70's and early 80's. This mix includes entirely unreleased material along with demo versions of hits like "Looking For The Perfect Beat," "Renegades of Funk" and "Planet Rock. "

Listen and take a trip through the deepest part of the most important music collection of our time.

-Cut Chemist

Bachir Bomb Squad Mixtape Cover

Don't cross the wires, just play the damn tape. DJ and self-professed tape addict Bachir has put together an explosive set of boom-bap classics all recorded, manipulated and then replicated on analog tape. The result is almost a #ThrowbackThursday in and of itself. The drums snap with a dirty bump that's straight out the stereo of a '91 Corolla, and Bachir even included the so-necessary side switch-over in the middle of it all. We've long since thrown out our bright yellow walkmans, but at least we all agree that tape ain't quite dead yet.

JlaSoul Summer Fade Mixtape Cover

In what might be the first "fall" mixtape of the year, Queens, NY local jlasoul has come up with a great bit of autumnal audio. Drawing from downtempo, electro-R&B, and even a bit of lighthearted house, his new "Summer Fades" mix is a send-off to the warm season. Nostalgic synth melodies, and, later, live guitar samples make it an ideal set for a stroll with golden leaves overhead. Pull on that sweater keep out of those lengthening shadows.

Inspired minds would be wise to check out the long catalog of (re)mix work that both Astro and IMYRMIND have put in across the Atlantic, and there's no better way to start than directly downloading this set right here.

Futuronostro Rinse FM SIMS MASS PHAZZ mix cover

The Europeans got it going on this week, it seems. Rinse FM hosted a triumvirate of DJs that included, amongst others, our French friend Phazz. Phazz took the honor spot spot of closing out the two hour set, which includes just about everything worth hearing in the beat-driven universe. Drum n bass, heavy trap, straightforward house, and grimy hip-hop all get their due in a radio double hour that proves that across the Atlantic they keep things terminally based.
