Minnesota Family Honors Prince With 10,000 Purple Light Holiday Display

A Minnesota family has honored Prince with an incredible holiday display.

Originally reported by The Star Tribune, Mike Staudt and his family have been creating beautiful and intricate light displays for Christmas since 2013. But for this particular year they dedicated a light show to the one and only Purple One using, well, a whole lot of purple — 10,000 purple lights to be exact.

"We've always been casual Prince fans, but his passing really hit us," Staudt said. "We regretted not taking advantage of having such an iconic star so close to us and never attended any of the shows or concerts at Paisley."

"Prince's passing meant so much to our community that we decided to do a short dedication during the intermission of our Christmas light show to honor him," he added. "We've received compliments on this part of our show and a few people have even mention it made them teary-eyed."

Titled "The Lights on Pascolo," which is taken from the street the Staudts live on, the light show includes 10,000 lights that run on 8,500 computer-controlled channels that allow for color-changing lights, and robotic effects synchronized to Christmas music. Staudt has estimated that he puts in at least 200 hours into the project, including building props, programming, editing audio tracks and setting up and testing.

The end result? A 14 minute long show that will feature a "Purple Rain" intermission with thousands of purple lights, a spinning Prince symbol and graphics of The Purple One all set to the iconic "Purple Rain" song.

In other Prince related news the virtuosic artist's Paisley Park will be the setting for a four day music festival in the spring of next year. A celebration of the life and legacy of Prince, the event will feature performances from Morris Day & The Time, The Revolution and many others. Attendees will also be able to get a view of Paisley Park too.
