Where there is a will there is a way. At least that was presumably the motto when MF DOOM fan and full-time digger Boom Bap Beatnik decided to dig up all of the original samples for Operation Doomsday - the debut solo album from the rapper/producer who originally made waves as one-third of KMD - and package them as one comprehensive body of work that dissects the classic LP for curious rap nerds and confounded diggers alike. For all of the vinyl junkies bemoaning that ever-elusive sample, Beatnik and Hip Hop Is Read do the dirty work for you. Operation: Doomsday (The Samples) features tracks from Sade, The Beatles, Atlantic Starr and The Spinners amongst others. In other words, this is a must-grab even for those who have never lent an ear to MF DOOM prior to this release. For the uninitiated the samples are always a great place to start. Chase this joint with a few shots of Special Herbs and call me in the morning.
