Your girl Lorde made her U.S. television debut last night, going from First Look Fridays to Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in record time—a little more than 6 months by my count. As team The-Roots, would have loved to see how The Legendary interpreted her alt-trap chart bullet “Royals” but I also get that as a new kid on this here block she wanted to bring her live show uncut ( her album’s called Pure Heroine, git it?) for the TV-landers. And that she does, delivering note-perfect renditions of “Royals” and the web-sclusive “White Teeth Teens.” In the process she demonstrates most ably why people are out here paying US$100 a pop to see her stage shows (word to the wise, she’s playing at Warsaw in Brooklyn tomorrow night!) when they didn’t know her from eve 6 months ago. Not saying I told you so but dammit, I TOLD YOU this girl was finna buss. Y’all need to start listening to these First Look tracks more closely, main. Cause if you listen close to this one, you can just faintly hear the sonic boom from Lorde’s sound-barrier-breaking ascent to stardom.
