Brandy at BET Honors 2013

Brandy returned to the stage with a flawless performance of her new single “Without You” at the 6th Annual BET Honors – a star studded tribute honoring an all-star cast of celebrities.  Standing against an elegantly sparse set – accompanied only by dancer Anthony Burrell and a well-placed spotlight – Brandy performed barefoot in black.  Brandy’s performance did as much to set the stage for her fellow performers as it did her impending return to the fore.  Followed by a strikingly beautiful cast of characters, Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu, Ledisi, and Mint Condition took turns bringing the house down.  The night featured a particularly vein melting medley of the Chaka Khan classics “Everlasting Love” and “Ain’t Nobody” from Ledisi.  After Ledisi brought the audience to their feet, Mint Condition kept them there with “Pretty Brown Eyes” and “Slo Woman” – a performance they dedicated to their industry forebears, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and music executive Clarence Avant.  The event honored Mr. Avant, Oscar winner Halle Berry, legendary singer Chaka Khan, spiritual leader T.D. Jakes, and Olympic gold medalist Lisa Leslie.
