Kwabs Releases New Single "Brother"

Kwabs

I'm not sure what's more surprising: Kwabs' new single "Brother" or Kwabs himself. The Ghanian-born artist wasn't planning on being  hand-picked by drum & bass legend Goldie as a "troubled" teen with unrealized potential. But none of that really matters once you're swept away by the perplexing strength of Kwabs' voice over the fragility of his piano on "Brother." The artist is a former jazz student of the Royal Academy of Music, but you wouldn't know it. His music, rather then being steeped in the saxophones of his jazz youth, is instead dominated by both his voice-- soulful and baritone-- and his synth--cold and austere. The tension between the two create a sense of emotional anticipation. Anticipation that's rewarded as Kwabs bellows "Better the man that you know. Better the one you can trust. And better the brother who loves you."

"Brother" isn't just a fantastic single; it's another step in the rapid progression from one of R&B's most promising new stars. Kwabs was picked by MTV and BBC Radio 1Xtra as one of 2014's best new artists, but this only serves as the prelude to the May 20th release of his new EP, Pray For Love. And if anyone can make me pray for love, it'd be Kwab.
