Khemist & DJ Aktive Salute All Unarmed Black Men Murdered By Police With The New Track "Man Down" From Their Forthcoming 'Khemist x Aktive 2' Project.
Philly MC Khemist follows the 2013 release of the KHEMIST x AKTIVE collaborative EP with "Man Down" - the first track from the forthcoming KHEMIST x AKTIVE 2 project. Khemist speaks the names of victims of police brutality across the track dedicated to all unarmed black men murdered by law enforcement officers. The track follows the killing of unarmed St. Louis teen Michael Brown and the subsequent unrest in the town of Ferguson, Missouri where Brown was killed. Brown's death was the latest in a string of high profile murders that have exposed the increasingly contentious relationship between people of color and the police officers hired to protect and serve in their communities. Khemist spits a fire baptized set of verses over a whirlwind of an instrumental from RJD2. The production provides a well orchestrated foil for the litany of people, places and events Khemist serves up in this sobering report on the current state of affairs for black men living and breathing in the United States.
