Kendrick Lamar's "King Kunta" Gets A Genius 8-Bit Super Mario Bros. Mash-Up

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

King Koopa and King Kunta collide in a brand new mash-up of Kendrick Lamar's funky To Pimp A Butterfly track with the classic 1986 8-bit Super Mario Brothers theme. The 95-second long clip was uploaded to SoundCloud four days ago by user VictoryLaptop, but appears to have finally been seized upon by the blogosphere—and far be it from us to deprive you.

Musically, it's just what you'd expect—the vocal stem of "King Kunta" (along with a bit of clean guitar) isolated and flipped over the classic theme song to Nintendo's flagship franchise. Unfortunately, it doesn't include one of the more moody subterranean beats, but then again the god-awful water level music is also left off, so it's kind of a Nintendo-centric wash.

"King Kunta" already got the waggish mash-up treatment this year thanks to a pairing of Kendrick Lamar's vocal with the iconic Seinfeld theme song. This new bit, though, is an even more nostalgic link to the past.

Listen to the mashup below, watch out for Bullet Bills, and if you're having loading issues, be sure to pull out the cartridge and blow on it a bit. Afterward, you can blame us for getting the damn thing stuck in your head all day. We'll see you in the warp zone.
