Kaytranada Shares The Hard-Vibing New Solo Cut "195"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

While many are quick to claim that Kaytranada is stingy with his own music, perhaps "deliberate" is a better word. The sketches and one-off ideas shared via the young Montreal phenom's Soundcloud page put others polished final products to shame, and now it appears we have a new proper single to enjoy. So stop your damn complaining and just get down to the beat, y'all.

"195" may or may not be a preview (or bonus track) from Kaytranada's upcoming 99.9% LP, but whatever the case may be it's a certifiable winner. Released via XL Recordings' XL Chapter VI compilation, the tune oscillates like a drunk gyroscope that never quite topples over with Brazilian flutes tumbling down upon themselves to become synths split by crackling snares. An instrumentalist's take on house and electro, Kaytranada's style is one that's defied easy description, and "195" continues the pattern. It's best not to talk about it—just push play and let it hit you.

Listen to "195" below, and if you're in need of a Kaytranada refresher course, check out the producer's collaborations with Freddie Gibbs, Talib Kweli, Tuxedo, Mick Jenkins and his own Soundcloud page. We'll keep you up to date on all things 99.9% as details continue to drop.
