Kanye West Joins Francis & The Lights On Sobering, Heart-Mending Ballad "My City's Gone"

Kanye West Joins Francis & The Lights On Somber Ballad "My City's Gone"

It's hard to quantify just how stellar this Francis & The Lights resurgence has been. The one-man-band, helmed by prolific singer/songwriter/musical-shapeshifter Francis Starlite, has lent its talents to some of the year's biggest records, including Chance The Rapper's Coloring Book and Frank Ocean's Blonde, yet had ample time to craft a solo project, Farewell, Starlite!, released this past weekend while performing with Chano at his inaugural hometown throw-down.

The album -- a must-listen -- features contributions from Bon Iver and Kanye West on the joyous lead-off single "Friends," but that appears to have been just the tip of Francis and Ye's collaborative output. Yesterday saw the release of the sobering non-album ballad "My City's Gone," finding the duo crooning over imminent change and the toll it takes on the spirit. It's a tearful start to the day, no doubt, but this'll tear your heart apart and put it back together in four minutes flat. And it's very necessary listening in these troubling times. Hear Kanye West and Francis & The Lights join forces once more on "My City's Gone" down below. Francis' new album Farewell, Starlite! is out now as a free download via FarewellStarlite.com.
