This is what we like to see, y’all! Support for Jordan Peele‘s horror-thriller, Get Out, was an independently produced effort (courtesy of Blumhouse Productions) and has been a beast over Kong: Skull Island and Logan at the box office.
According to reports, Get Out has become the second non-franchise film to cross the coveted $100 million threshold mark this year. The first was M. Night Shyamalan‘s Split, which is another totally dope move to see if you haven’t copped tickets for it yet. We are still saying that it is 100% rated by Rotten Tomatoes, even though the haters will hate, and has near-universal acclaim from anybody who matters.
As Get Out celebrates its successes, the film marks its third weekend in theaters, making it the fastest $100 million earner for Blumhouse, which also funded Split, the Paranormal Activity franchise and the Insidious series.
Only costing the studio a modest $5 million to make, this is an achievement of magnanimous proportions and should not be forgotten come next year’s award season.
