Jon Hopkins & Caribou Talk Shop, Share New Music On BBC Radio 1

Jon Hopkins Essential Mix Cover

Two of the finest, most forward-thinking electronic musicians on the planet, Jon Hopkins and Caribou (aka Dan Snaith) joined forces for Hopkins's latest BBC Radio 1 residency program, chatting about record digging in their respective pasts in between songs. Snaith upped the ante for the entire evening by sharing new music from Daphni, his extra-dance-friendly side project. The new number is currently entitled, but features a textbook house backbeat, simple vocal samples and more than enough open space in which to insert your wildest dancefloor dreams. Amidst the other cuts from Radiohead, Talk Talk, Four Tet and more, the Daphni track stands out as being especially strong and spartan in its approach.

Snaith/Caribou/Daphni received top honors last year from the BBC after his Essential Mix was voted the favorite of the year. Hopkins, it turns out, will be scoring music for a new production of Shakespeare's Hamlet, which will feature megastar Benedict Cumberbatch. Hopkins last hit the pages of Okayplayer when he convinced Four Tet to share a previously-unheard remix with the world, and now it appears he has a penchant for drawing greatness out of electronic stars.
