In a new interview, John Legend has called for cease fire of criticism against Kanye West and his actions at Sunday night's Grammy Awards. "It didn't hurt anybody," Legend told UsWeekly. "Anybody who's upset just needs to relax. It was funny."

Legend was directly addressing Kanye's two second stage grab, and only later commented on West's claims that Beck, who won the Grammy award for album of the year needed to "respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé." With West's post-show words in mind, Legend was a a little less forgiving, and was quick to praise Beck's work. "I disagree with those comments. Beck is indeed a true artist's artist, he told USWeekly He's a multi-instrumentalist, a creative and unique singer-songwriter whose music I have bought and enjoyed over the years."

Legend continued: "While his win may have been a surprise to many, it's not because he's not a great artist deserving of recognition. All of the other nominated artists, including Beyonce, are incredible in their own right, and arguments could be made for any of them deserving to win."

Still, Legend has remained good-humored and forgiving of Kanye's words and actions at a time when many critics have resorted to name-calling and demanded an apology from the outspoken hip-hop superstar. The two musicians have been close friends since the early days of Legend's career. "I wouldn't be here without [Kanye's] support," he reminded the tabloid.
