Ever since his debut album Get Lifted, John Legend has risen as a dynamic entertainer, shaping music and film alike with unquestionable poise and prolific levels of production. His latest effort is an executive producing slot on the forthcoming HBO doc Southern Rites, which examines the very real vestiges of segregation in the American south by shining its light on the very first integrated prom in a Georgia town (some 40 years too late) and the continued battle for black lives in the region. On a recent stop in The Daily Show studio, Legend divulged a bit about the doc and his involvement with the film, expressing his deep disappointment in having to even discuss the matter, but understanding that the road to change is littered with these conversations. And he's more than willing to have them, as evidenced by his appearance on the late night news satire and the subsequent chat.
