John Legend has teamed with Columbia Records to release the soundtrack to Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave entitled Music From And Inspired By 12 Years A Slave. Legend curates the compilation featuring original music from Alicia Keys, Hans Zimmer, Alabama Shakes and more. John Legend detailed his excitement for the forthcoming project in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

"12 Years a Slave is such a stunningly powerful film. I was so moved when I saw it," said Legend. "I felt every minute of it and was so inspired to contribute to the music of the soundtrack. This album brings together some incredible artists from different places and different genres who have all been touched by the film. When artists are inspired by great art, it makes us want to create. This album is the result of that inspiration."

Amongst the period-specific performances on the compilation there is a full cast performance of Legend's interpretation of "Roll, Jordan, Roll" led by the film's star, Chiwetel Ejiofor. The 15-track project will be available via digital download on November 5th. Physical copies of the soundtrack will be available for purchase on November 19th. Keep an eye open for the forthcoming soundtrack. Watch the trailer for the film below. Stay tuned for more.
