Jazz geeks and music nerds rejoice, one of the most celebrated and influential records in history is getting a bit of a facelift this holiday season. John Coltrane's classic A Love Supreme hit the half-century mark this year, and Verve Music Group has plans to bring it back in a big way come November. A 50th anniversary reissue will drop November 6th as a double-CD, compiling session reels once thought lost to the vaults from the second of a two-day session that birthed these landmark recordings, as well as a 32-page booklet with photos and a collection of all of the jazz giant's musical sketches and written works. And then for the uber-stan, a third CD will be packaged in to the Super Deluxe Edition, containing a recording of Coltrane and his quintet's Festival Mondial du Jazz Antibes appearance from July of 1965 with an introduction from guitar sage Carlos Santana. No preorder links have dropped just yet, but this stuffed-to-the-brim reissue is a must-buy for the jazz aficionado's holiday wish-list; a massive trophy piece to an already heroic catalogue from an inarguable great.
