The patriarch to the Jackson family has died at age 89.
According to a report in TMZ, family sources confirmed Jackson passed away at 3:30a.m. Wednesday in Los Angeles.
The father and early manager to The Jackson 5 was diagnosed with terminal cancer in June. His wife, Katherine Jackson, and other family members were reportedly at his bedside.
Last week, Jermaine Jackson released a statement on Twitter regarding his father's condition, writing, "My father's health is not good," adding, "For however long he has left, my mother, siblings, and relatives want to be with him, without hindrance."
Jackson suffered a stroke and three heart attacks in 2015, and was hospitalized again in 2016.
Janet Jackson also spoke on her father during a speech at the Radio Disney Music Awards in Hollywood while receiving the Impact Award, saying, “My mother nourished me with the most extravagant love imaginable. My father, my incredible father, drove me to be the best that I can."
Jackson was instrumental in engineering the early careers of The Jackson 5 and the solo careers of Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson out of Gary, Ind.
