Jimmy Fallon x Will Smith Present 'The Evolution Of Hip-Hop Dancing' On Tonight Show Debut

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.Will Smith and Jimmy Fallon present the Evolution of Hip-hop Dancing

On the debut of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fallon and The Roots did what they do best, bringing musical comedy that the hip-hop generation can relate to. The formula Fallon and the Legendary have perfected with Justin Timberlake on their famous "History of Hip-Hop" medleys was put to good use with inaugural guest Will Smith AKA The Fresh Prince (shouldn't he be the Fresh King by now? Fresh Emperor, perhaps?) on a segment called "The Evolution of Hip-Hop Dancing" (Okaypayer followers will recognize this as the bit that Questlove & The Roots were rehearsing in the sneak peak we shared on instagram yesterday--specifically the "Hip-Hop Hooray" into "Superfreak"/"Can't Touch This" transition).

We don't want to ruin all the fun for you but besides the pure it's-funny-because-it's-true humor of taking the old school (The "Biz Dance") to the new school (the "Stanky Legg" et al.) some special highlights along the way include "The Fish Eye"; "The I'm About To Break Dance" and of course "The Carlton." Of course not every hip-hop dancer believes in evolution. But professors Fallon and Smith have bravely decided to "teach the controversy." Now press play and let them Teach You How To Dougie below:
