The Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation initially announced the concept for Jimi Hendrix Park in December of 2011, and the City of Seattle is finally making progress on this highly anticipated masterpiece. 2.5 acres of land in Seattle's Central District, near the Northwest African American Museum, has officially been marked for the park's 2015 construction in honor of the town's guitar legend. Janie Hendrix, the president and CEO of Experience Hendrix, LLC and sister of the rock legend, shared some words with RollingStone on the upcoming project in honor of her late brother.

"Every project endorsed by our family which bears Jimi's name is meaningful to us, but this park holds special significance. Seattle will always be Jimi's home. This very area is where Jimi grew up, where his dreams were cultivated and his creative energy awakened, in many ways. So to see this amazing place of beauty, dedicated to Jimi and his artistry, blossom into reality is indescribably fulfilling. Having been involved in each facet of the park's creation, I can honestly say that this musical garden is a fitting representation of Jimi's imagination. It is truly inspired."

The park will be created in two phases. The first phase has been named after the late singer's 1967 song "Little Wing." In this phase, the park's entrance will be constructed along with a stairway in the park's southeast corner. The "Little Wing" will also feature paved pathways with a butterfly garden and a timeline of Jimi Hendrix's life. The park's second phase in currently unnamed, however The Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation is currently fundraising for its features, which will include a performance space, a central shelter and a "shadow wave wall" with images of Jimi Hendrix's silhouette. It is predicted that the park will be a safe place for people from all backgrounds to explore music and art and celebrate the city's history and heritage, while encouraging immersion in community pride and appreciation in the neighboring museum. Jimi Hendrix really is a legend in the world or music and art and it is truly amazing that the late legend's hometown is taking the time to acknowledge that.
