Jhené Aiko Answers "The Questions" For Okayplayer TV

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Sheer clothing enthusiast and sun goddess Jhené Aiko sat down with OKP TV on a couch in Philly recently, adopting a very chill lotus pose to answer "The Questions." The success of her first (--and long-awaited if you let me tell it!) EP Sail Out, released last November, has had Ms. Aiko spending a lot of time in the sun this summer, working instead of not-working, in her own words. She's being featured at several of the summer's heavyweight music festivals, including our very own Roots Picnic 2014. Fresh off a tour with the one and only Champagne Papi, in between performances on Saturday Night Live at Coachella and dates at Lollapalooza and Barclays, Jhené came through the city of brotherly love to talk with us about harnessing her power from the sun, writing her first rap (with help from her mom) at age seven, and her unrequited puppy love for fellow Picnic performer Snoop Dogg.

In conversation Aiko reveals herself as a genuine lyricist, poet, and thoughtful rapper: she's got an inherent gift for transforming sensory energy into language and might just be a rap fans’ favorite hippie. Some people (that were not me) hadn't expected her to rap--or at least not so well-- during her set. Glad they could get put on. In the spirit of the flower child, peace and light and get to know another side of The Artist Formerly Known As 'JhenéDogg Jhené' --true story! Watch below:
