Jay Z Will Perform Classic, Rare B-Sides At A Concert To Promote Tidal

Longtime of Jay Z's catalog will get the chance to bear witness as the rapper brings a slew of vintage and rare songs out for a live performance--so long as they're subscribed to Tidal. Jay's fledgling hi-fi streaming service will host the concert on May 13th in New York City, and promises album cuts and "all the best 'B-sides' of his career."

Tickets to the concert will be doled out via a contest, and to enter fans will need to be Tidal subscribers. Users are being asked to make a playlist featuring the rare Jay Z songs they'd hope to finally catch live, and tweet it out using the #TIDALXJAYZ hashtag.

The concert is 18+ and, being as it's a contest, entry is technically free--so long as you're one of Tidal's current 770,000 paying subscribers. The announcement comes after Jay Z took to twitter over the weekend to defend his streaming music platform, which has been plagued by early struggles. The company, which was acquired by Jay earlier this spring, slipped out of the top 700 list of Apple's mobile app store last week after a round of internal layoffs. "The iTunes Store wasn't built in a day. It took Spotify 9 years to be successful," Hov tweeted. "We are here for the long haul. Please give us a chance to grow & get better. #TidalFacts."

The May 13th B-sides concert will be livestreamed on Tidal's website, and already the #TIDALXJAYZ hashtag is filling up with playlist entries (and a fair bit of shade). Read more about the contest and enter here.
