Jay-Z drops “DP3” (Dead Presidents 3) produced by Young Guru – a track floated around the internet following an unofficial mixtape leak in 2007 – after a fan inquired about the whereabouts of an official release during a Twitter Q&A yesterday afternoon. Hov interacted with fans to celebrate the release of Magna Carta Holy Grail, fielding questions from the masses in real time. Jay-Z responded to a request from Twitter fan Jordan Clemons as follows:

Recorded around the time of American Gangster, “DP3” takes a cue from Jay Electronica‘s “Exhibit A” and its predecessors in the Hov canon with the tinny piano sample and streetwise lyrical sincerity. Jay-Z’s willingness to release the official track under such informal circumstances is a continuation of the actions speak louder than words approach he’s taken lately with the release of MCHG and a pretty cool moment in hip-hop history, especially as many artists and celebrities recoil at the effects of social media and the increased proximity it allows their fans to have to them.
