Paths Of Rhythm: Jarobi White Declares Q-Tip's Queens Home A Musical Landmark

Deep in the outer-borough of Queens lays one of hip-hop's most overlooked monuments; a small home that housed the most formative moments of A Tribe Called Quest, where Jarobi White, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Phife Dawg would meet and work on their earliest notes between the walls of Q-Tip's house. Now, a quarter-century removed from those intimate sessions of a still fledgling, but full of promise Tribe, Jarobi takes us back to the residence that nurtured those moments of raw discovery in the first part of a short, commemorative doc series aptly-titled Paths Of Rhythm. We never actually step foot in the modest residence, but the gleeful nostalgia in Jarobi's face as he reflects on the group's time there is really all you need to understand just how vital the space (just a few short blocks from where Run DMC began down their own path) was to the formation of the cool, loose grooves that the crew had been cooking up. You can watch Jarobi White declare Q-Tip's home a musical landmark in part 1 of Paths Of Rhythm below, just be sure to stay tuned for the next episode. Next stop: El Segundo? Nah, The Tonight Show!
