LargeUp Events: Celebrate Jamaican Independence w/ Sister Nancy, Rice & Peas

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.Blackwell_Sister-Nancy_SQ

This coming Monday marks the 50th Anniversary of Jamaican independence. If you can't fly out to Kingston for a long weekend, you'll still have the chance to celebrate the momentous occasion adequately (and, hopefully, excessively). Two LargeUp events we would like to point out to you take place in New York these coming days. On Sunday, August 5, the original dancehall queen Sister Nancy will throw down a performance at Ruschmeyer's in Montauk, Long Island, with assistance from DJ Gravy and Micro Don. On Monday, the Rice and Peas party night will then take over Manhattan's Westway --again with Micro Don and Gravy on deck, along with Max Glazer, DJ Maya and Orijahnal Vibez. Since there's also that Electric Punanny party happening on Saturday, this is shaping up to be a good weekend for Caribbean music, right? Find the full event details over at LargeUp:
