Harlem Globetrotter Makes Record Breaking 583 Foot Shot

Wow. That is really all that needs to be said for this video.

As Mass Appeal reports today marks the first ever World Trick Shot Day, and what better way to celebrate such an occasion than to drop a basketball in a net 583 feet in the air?

That is exactly what the Harlem Globetrotters' Buckets Blake did, as he climbed to the top of the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio, Texas in hopes of making the mouth dropping shot.

The two and a half minute clip begins with Blake at the bottom of the Tower of the Americas, where he proceeds to make his way to the very top. As you see him in the elevator twirling the basketball the ascent just keeps going and going, until he is greeted by a security officer that helps him get to where he needs to be make the shot.

He buckles a safety strap to a railing as he descends to the edge of the top of the tower, positions himself, looks down and drops the ball where it proceeds to connect with the net.

Somehow, Blake manages to successfully make a shot 538 feet in the air where the hoop is barely visible. And although it looks as if is not going to make it at first, the ball curves in such a way that it ultimately ends up going right into the net.

If anything, aside from being an incredible feat, this could also be used as an example of the power of physics.

World Trick Shot Day will now be happening on the first Tuesday of December, and it is safe to assume that the Harlem Globetrotters will kick off the celebration each year (unless other professional basketball players join in on the fun).
