Gorillaz Join Instagram, New Album's Arrival Is Now Imminent

A "Special" Gorillaz Album Won't Arrive Until 2017, But It'll Be Well Worth The Wait

If the hands are reading correctly, it's just about new album o'clock for Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett's Gorillaz. Artwork has been teased, a tentative late 2016/early 2017 release has been teased, both while Hewlett and Albarn work on other projects. But the surest sign of a Gorillaz return may have just arrived with the group's launch of an Instagram account, where they seem to have posted a timeline that details the animated band's trajectory from conception to its current in-construction phase, with one of the final image's captions reading "Christmas baby."

Whether that refers to an actual date of arrival or not is yet to be determined, but it does appear that the wheels are moving, maybe even a little quicker than we might have imagined. Only time will tell, but for now you can hear Albarn on De La Soul's new album And The Anonymous Nobody, which debuted at the top of Billboard's Rap Albums chart the week following its release. There isn't much more to go on here, but we'll be sure to keep you updated as new Gorillaz tidbits make way down the grapevine.
