The New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, the Office of the Bronx Borough President and Hot 97 are collaborating to launch the official Global Hip-Hop Day for the masses to celebrate.

The father of the culture, DJ Kool Herc, will also be on hand as the official proclamation ceremony will take place at the birthplace of hip-hop, 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx on June 8th. In addition with the ceremony, there will be a street renaming, a community block party at Cedar Playground.

Hip-hop has been a positive influence on the game and has employed millions upon millions of people. It is a once-in-a-lifetime event that no one should miss if they are in or around the Bronx, New York City area. Artists, icons, legends, influencers, DJs and VIPs will join each event to amplify and solidify Global Hip-Hop Day’s reach.

Guest include: the aforementioned Kool Herc, DJ Scratch, DJ Chuck Chillout, DJ Red Alert, Grandmaster Caz, DJ Kast One, DJ Enuff, DJ Camilo, D-Nice, Kid Capri, Doug E. Fresh, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Swizz Beats and a host of others. For those who don’t know, hip-hop started in the South Bronx and spread to the other four boroughs of New York City, eventually taking over the entire world. “A catalytic force majeure that went beyond musical boundaries and into the psyche of young America,” according to marketing powerhouse Steve Stoute. Global Hip-Hop Day cements the legacy of the culture as an international behemoth.

The City of New York will recognize hip-hop’s influence as part of the nationally recognized celebration of Black Music Month, as well as serving as a precursor to Hot 97’s Summer Jam global expansion announcements. “We are thrilled to unveil ‘Hip-Hop Boulevard’ at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, the birthplace of hip-hop,” Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr. said. “The Bronx is an iconic, internationally renowned hip-hop destination, the home of a once rebellious art form that has, over generations, become a global powerhouse.”
