FKA twigs performed a dissonant and cerebral rendition of Sam Smith's gospel-flecked hit "Stay With Me" on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge late last week. Just days after Smith himself took to that very stage to perform his own souped-up cover, twigs shows us he isn't the only soulful British import that can turn a track out. The clean and bright vocal chops of Smith's now patented pallet get swapped out for a murky, downright haunting treatment, taking the cut into the cosmos with atmospheric synths, glitchy and imperfect.
Each of the UK stars, though residing on opposite ends of the spectrum, have formidable pieces out there for the heads to bop to.
