Fashion Friday returns this week with a look at vibrant images, items and collections including Nigerian designer Duro Olowu‘s contribution to London Fashion Week, Lorde‘s new look for Vogue, and Santigold‘s brand new collaborative collection with Stance socks. Fashion Editor Poundo Gomis and photographer Taylor Ballantyne covered Olowu’s vibrant show for Okayafrica with a photo spread highlighting the contrasting prints, eye-catching florals, color-blocking, capes and geometric shapes that formed the foundation of Olowu’s distinct collection of garments for Fall/Winter ’14. Off the runway, Vogue managed to convince Lorde to trade her stygian signature colors for a floral wreath and pastel frock that channel the impending season and give her a noticeably brighter glow. The Kiwi wunderkind commented on her personal aesthetic and approach to style in a corresponding interview with the magazine:
“People like Grace Jones and David Bowie, who have such a sense of themselves.” With a look that moves easily from sleek austerity to fantastical whimsy, she counts Comme des Garçons, Miu Miu, Moschino, and Simone Rocha among her favorite labels. (She wore Chanel to the MoMA event.) “The kind of clothes that I’ve found I like to wear over the past year and six months have all been things that make me feel powerful and strong,” she says. “I wear a lot of pants. I wear a lot of long, structured dresses.”
Following the trend of brighter hues, Santigold announced her new collaborative collection with Stance socks. The collection features vibrant colors and stylistic references to Santi’s love of music, travel and art with a deep undercurrent of New York City pride as demonstrated by the Jay Z inspired design of her Brooklyn Go Hard sock. Proceeds from the sale of that sock will benefit the charity: water non-profit organization.
