Enigmatic soul singer Donn T returns with the official video for “Midnight” from her forthcoming Gramophonica EP directed by Eternal Polk and Arthvr Alleyne for Idegosuperego Media. The video follows the September release of the track and the clip’s recent premiere via last.fm. Shot at NYC’s Ace Hotel, the video finds Donn closing a chapter on a nagging conflict and channeling the aesthetic of Cyndi Lauper:
According to Donn T, the song “Midnight” was “written in my room one evening at The Ace Hotel NYC. The lyrics were inspired by a telephone conversation I’d had earlier that day with a good friend that went terribly wrong.” She goes on to add that going back to the Ace to film the video was “me completing the thought. Plus, The Ace NYC is so rocker-friendly, from the lobby to the basement which includes Liberty Hall, to the bedrooms, complete with guitars and record players in most rooms. ” The video even nods to a musical icon, Donn T says. “The cast in the video are a wink to Cyndi Lauper in that my family and real friends are the actors. In fact, there are a couple of other hidden references that are fun and I expect people to find on their own.
The single – the first release on Donn’s D-Tone Victorious label – offers fans a taste of what Donn’s been up to ahead of the EP’s November 10th release. The Gramophonica EP will be followed by a full-length LP entitled Flight Of The Donn T. Check the footage below to watch the official video for “Midnight.” Purchase the single via iTunes.
