De La Soul Discuss New LP 'And The Anonymous Nobody', Avoiding Labels, Early Influences + More On NPR

De La Soul's well on their way to bringing their crowdfunded record to the table. After accumulating nearly half of a million dollars from close to 10,000 backers for the record via Kickstarter, the press campaign is officially in full-effect, even before the record's actually been completed. Pos & Dove took to the airwaves earlier this week to discuss And The Anonymous Nobody, their earliest influences as spry Strong Island MCs why they're no longer bothering with the madness of major labels. In terms of the new record, nothing you didn't already know; Talking Heads frontman and outright musical gawd David Byrne will be gracing the cut, along with Damon Albarn, 2 Chainz and Little Dragon (!). What will probably capture your interest more than anything, however, is how broad the range influence for the trio is. From P-Funk to the Philharmonic, from Ghettotech to gangsta rap, the OGs of the Daisy Age pull from it all, and it's well represented in both their sonic purview and their energy as performers. And The Anonymous Nobody is currently slated for a September release, but seems to be closer to completion than any of us had imagined and could even be dropped ahead of schedule if the the funding stays right. Hit the link below to listen to the full interview and jump back to that all-too-ill loosie "God It" that landed earlier this week for a little appetizer.
