The historic Howard Theatre will be officially “reborn” this Thursday April 12th with a star-studded affair presided over by jazz legend (and Howard musical director) George Duke, and featuring performances by Motown’s Smokey Robinson, comedian Dick Gregory, Savion Glover, Lalah Hathaway, Chrisette Michele, Eric Roberson, Joe Sample, Raheem DeVaughn and much more. That, however, is just the beginning. The spring season at the restored theatre (now in ‘phase 2′ of fund-raising for an accompanying museum and cultural center) promises to be truly um, legendary including shows from Okayplayers The Roots, Yasiin Bey, Alice Smith, Bilal and Amel Larrieux! Those dates kick off April 14th with Yasiin Bey’s appearance and continue through Amel Larrieux’s perfromance on May 25th. See the flyers above and after the jump and get dates and ticket info for individual shows via Jill Newman Productions.
