David Letterman To Return To TV For Climate Change Series

Looks like David Letterman is returning from retirement to talk about something he's very passionate about: the important issues of climate change.

In a report from Rolling Stone the iconic television personality will serve as a correspondent on a television series titled Years of Living Dangerously. The series will be on National Geographic, and serves as Letterman's first work on television since he left The Late Show a year and a half ago.

The idea to get Letterman as a correspondent came about when Living Dangerously producers Joel Bach and David Gelber, reached out to Letterman after noticing his particular interest in the environment whenever he talked with scientists on The Late Show.

"He seemed to perk up when this issue came across his lap," Bach said. "We reached out to him to see if he'd want to be part of this, and he said, 'Absolutely.' He said [that climate change is] something he does think about a lot."

This forthcoming second season that Letterman will be a part of, finds him traveling to India and interviewing Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the country's energy concerns.

In a recently released trailer for the episode, there are scenes of Letterman walking around a field of solar panels while championing the use and importance of clean energy.

"I've created, excuse the expression, kind of a love affair with this," he says in the clip. "Think about the coal fired, dangerous, smoke belching generating plants, and then you look at this and it's friendly. There's something very appealing about this, and it's smooth. Look at it: I can touch it and it's safe. I put my head right there on it."

He then proceeds to kiss one of the panels which, well, you'll just have to watch the video below to see the outcome.

Season 2 of Years of Living Dangerously premieres October 30, and will feature additional hosts Arnold Schwarzenegger, America Ferrera, Cecily Strong and Aasif Mandvi.
