David Hasselhoff Goes On An 80s Action Mission In His Outrageous New Video For "True Survivor"

We know what you're thinking: David Hasslehoff? Really? Really.

In what might be the strangest, most audaciously self-aware music video of 2015, the Knight Rider star has released a brand new music video for his single "True Survivor," a track loaded with more low-fi synths and drum machine fills than any Atari cartridge could ever hope to hold. In just four short minutes we're treated to Hasselhoff blowing away an armed gang, walking casually through a room of dinosaurs and explosions, and generally kicking ass while standing beside a Lamborghini Countach, cheering on a group of time-traveling hackers on a race to stop a Hitler and a band of Nazis. Yes, "True Survivor" really does have it all. It's as if everything great about 80s action films was reborn, doused in neon, and licensed to kill.

A pitch-perfect throwback clip like this is its own reward, but David Hasselhoff hasn't come out of his lengthy music retirement for nothing. The video was made in support of the Kung Fury crowdfunding campaign, which last year proved massively successful in its quest to produce a new feature film that recaptures the absurd glory of 80s action movies. The movie itself will be a mash-up of footage from cop dramas, low budget science fiction thrillers, and computer-age fantasy flicks that once occupied your local video rental shop's dollar bin, with new plot lines and characters spliced in. Kung Fury was produced by Laser Unicorns, and drops via Youtube on May 28th. But for now, watch "True Survivor" and prepare to scratch your head while you grin with nostalgic joy. It's time for takeHoff.
