It’s almost noon, so I’m sure anyone observing today’s holiday is lost in a cloud of smoke by now. Before you light that next one up, take a minute to download the perfect soundtrack to the day, Curren$y & Alchemist‘s Covert Coup EP. The 10 track project (presented by Diamond Supply Co.) has features from Prodigy, Fiend, Smoke DZA, and Freddie Gibbs. Weed references for days from track 1 to 10, accompanied by some tight bars from Spitta over ALC’s buttery production. Follow me after the jump – jets… fool.

    Not interested. Why is this called The Covert Coup anyway…oh because Currency is about to take over the game like every other M.C. ….Boring, Boring, Boring. I listened to his first album and I have to say honestly I wasn’t all that impressed. What is confusing to me is why an artist who is as talented as Currency use his prowess on the Mic to spread a message that has some value for someone other than himself? When is hip hop going to evolve or grow up..is all we have to offer weed rap, drug rap, thug rap, how much money and how fly I am rap. Stalin on the cover art? What is that about, does currency even know what he is evoking with that image?

    @dark night moon….

    you are an idiot… hip hp has grown and evolved. Many artists speak to many different crowds. If you don’t like one form or artist than don’t listen. This whole argument about hip hop not evolving is lame and tired. Get over it. Listen to who you like and let the other artists appeal to their audience.

    Hip hop is not just one message, style, or ideal. Hip hop is as diverse as the world it occupies. Once idiots like you stop trying to force the art form to be what you think it should be, then it will be able to take on the multiple forms like rock music did. Chill out and let artists do what they want. You have the freedom to consume what you choos. The least you can do is give the artists the freedom to create the art they choose,

    Like we always do about this time,

    @ dark night moon

    I hear you but I think you are either not a real fan or just lazy. Those rappers that you yearn for are out there. They are making conscious rap that speaks to social issues. You have to go look for them since the mainstream media doesn’t want to promote that. The issue you speak of is much broader than hip-hop. There is an effort to dumb down the people and hip hop is not immune to that agenda.
