While we were distracted back East by hurricanes and whatnot The Coup's new album Sorry To Bother You hit record stores like an extreme weather event all its own (cop it now via Anti Records or iTunes). But luckily we arranged for Boots Riley to fly backwards around the Earth, thereby creating this limited-time opportunity for Okayplayers to stream the album in its entirety before you buy. In case you haven't been paying attention The Coup's new sound is a molotov cocktail of grimy rock, funk revival, turfin rhythms and Black Panther politics with roots that run 3 generations deep in the soil of their native Oakland--a powerful mix that can perhaps best be described as 'okayplayerish'. Best of all, this album stream affords you the chance to peer behind the big singles and hear some gems like the surprisingly tender "Violet"; the quietly powerful "This Year" and the appropriately fuzzy "Long Island Iced Tea, Neat" (featuring Japanther!)
