We’re still in grief over all the deaths from last year, specifically with George Michael passing. The singer-songwriter was a force of good in a world full of ignorance, and his leaving us meant that we only had the music and the memories to cherish.

His death, originally unexplained, has since been proven as a case of natural causes, according to his coroner. George Michael suffered a dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver at age 53 on Christmas Day at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. Darren Salter, a senior coroner for Oxfordshire, said in a statement, “Inquiries into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post-mortem report received.”

“As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further inquiries.”

For those unaware, dilated cardiomyopathya is a disease that causes the heart muscle to become stretched, thin and unable to pump blood around the body efficiently. Myocarditis refers to the inflammation of the heart muscle, according to the British Heart Foundation.
